Was the Trinity Invented at Nicaea in 325?
0:56 Short
What does John 1:1 say?
They say Constantine invented the Trinity at the Council of Nicaea in A.D. 325. Here's what actually happened.
Nicaea ratified what the church was already teaching; it didn't invent it. John 1:1 (before A.D. 100) already says "the Word was God." Philippians 2 (A.D. 50s) says Jesus is "in the form of God." In 1 Corinthians 8:6 (c. A.D. 55) Paul splits the Shema around Jesus. And around A.D. 112 the Roman governor Pliny the Younger wrote that Christians sang "a hymn to Christ as to a god" — two centuries before Nicaea.
