Luke 23:42-43 · NKJV

The Man Everyone Would Have Written Off (Luke 23:42–43)

0:56 Short

What does Luke 23:42-43 say?

If you had been standing at the cross, you would have given up on him. Matthew tells us both criminals mocked Jesus at first (Matthew 27:44). But in Luke 23, something changed in one of them: “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:42–43, NKJV).

That doesn’t mean everyone turns at the end. But it does mean this: you didn’t see everything that happened in your loved one’s final hours. “The secret things belong to the LORD our God” (Deuteronomy 29:29).

Remember the two criminals crucified next to Jesus? Matthew tells us both of them mocked him at first, but in Luke 23, something changed in one of them. Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom." And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise." Anyone standing there would have written that man off. A criminal hours from death who had just been mocking Jesus. And in his last hours, he turned.

That doesn't mean everyone turns at the end. The other criminal didn't. But it does mean this. You didn't see everything that happened in your loved ones final hours and their final thoughts in their heart.
