Sin
Sexual Immorality
What the Bible Says
Sexual immorality encompasses all sexual activity outside the covenant of marriage between a husband and wife. Scripture calls it a sin against one's own body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Scripture Teaching
First Corinthians 6:18-20 commands, "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." Galatians 5:19 lists sexual immorality as a work of the flesh. First Thessalonians 4:3 declares, "For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality." Hebrews 13:4 affirms that marriage is honorable and the marriage bed undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral.
How It Applies Today
Scripture calls believers to honor God with their bodies, recognizing that they were bought at a price and are temples of the Holy Spirit. Fleeing sexual immorality requires intentional boundaries and a commitment to purity. God's design for sexuality within marriage is for the protection and blessing of His people.
