Faith
What the Bible Says
Faith is trusting in God and His promises, even when they cannot be seen with the eyes. Scripture defines it as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
Scripture Teaching
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Romans 10:17 explains how faith comes: "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." James 2:17 warns, "Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." Hebrews 11:6 declares, "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Faith is not blind optimism but confident trust in the character and promises of God.
How It Applies Today
Faith is the means by which sinners receive salvation and the way believers walk with God daily. It grows through hearing and applying the Word of God and is demonstrated through obedient action. The examples of faith in Hebrews 11 show that ordinary people who trusted God accomplished extraordinary things by His power.
