Sin
Disobedience to God
What the Bible Says
Disobedience to God is the willful refusal to follow His commands and submit to His authority. Scripture treats it as rebellion that carries serious consequences.
Scripture Teaching
First Samuel 15:22-23 declares, "Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry." Romans 5:19 explains, "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous." Deuteronomy 11:26-28 sets before the people a blessing for obedience and a curse for disobedience. Hebrews 2:2-3 warns, "For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?"
How It Applies Today
Disobedience often begins with small compromises that grow into patterns of rebellion. God values obedience above religious ritual because it reflects a heart that truly trusts and honors Him. The obedience of Christ, who was obedient even unto death, provides both the example and the power for believers to walk in faithful submission to God.
