Overview
Obadiah, the shortest book in the Old Testament, is a prophecy against Edom, the descendants of Esau. The Edomites are condemned for their pride, their violence against their brother Jacob (Israel), and their gloating over Jerusalem's destruction. God declares that Edom will be brought low and that their actions will return upon their own heads. The book concludes with the promise that the kingdom shall be the Lord's.

How It Applies Today
Obadiah warns that pride deceives and leads to downfall, and that mistreating others โ especially in their time of distress โ will be judged by God. The book reminds believers that God sees how nations and individuals treat one another. The closing declaration that the kingdom belongs to the Lord assures believers that God's justice will ultimately prevail.
