Overview
After the Jewish exiles return from Babylon, they begin rebuilding the temple but stop due to opposition and discouragement. Haggai delivers four messages challenging the people to consider their ways and resume the work. He points out that their neglect of the temple has led to economic hardship and that God has withheld blessing because His house remains unfinished. The people respond in obedience, and Haggai promises that the glory of the latter temple will surpass the former and that God will bless them.

How It Applies Today
Haggai challenges believers to examine their priorities and ask whether they are putting God's purposes first or focusing on their own comfort. The people's economic struggles were linked to their neglect of God's house, illustrating that right priorities lead to God's blessing. The promise of greater glory ahead encourages perseverance in God's work even when present efforts seem small.
