Overview
Paul writes from prison to explain the riches of God's grace and the believer's position in Christ. The first three chapters describe the spiritual blessings that belong to those who are in Christ โ chosen before the foundation of the world, redeemed by His blood, sealed with the Holy Spirit, and made alive together with Christ. The final three chapters apply these truths to daily life: walking in unity, putting off the old self, living in love, maintaining godly households, and putting on the full armor of God.
Key Themes
- The believer's spiritual blessings in Christ

- Spiritual warfare and the armor of God
Key Verses
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV)
"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV)
How It Applies Today
Ephesians teaches that salvation is entirely a gift of God's grace, received through faith and not by any human effort. The call to put on the whole armor of God reminds believers that the Christian life involves spiritual warfare and requires daily dependence on God's strength. Paul's vision of the church as one body encourages believers to pursue unity and to use their gifts to build one another up.
